Commission on Justice

for IMMIGRANTS & Refugees

Faith Hope Action

Our ACTION

The Immaculate Heart Community’s Commission on Justice for Immigrants and Refugees acts on behalf of individuals, women with children, and families who have relocated across the U.S. and face arrest, detention and deportation by ICE.

As a part of IHC’s commitment to action on issues that affect society, the Commission opposes measures that criminalize those who have fled violence and poverty in their countries to seek a more abundant life in the United States. The Commission supports the protection of recipients of DACA, and we summarily reject language that demonizes human beings with different cultures, languages, and national origins than our own.

SOME OF OUR ACTIONS

  • Serving as court observers in immigration hearings.

  • Visiting detention centers.

  • Participating in meetings and conferences that provide information, education, and training on immigrant rights issues.

  • Actively engaging in letter writing, petitioning and phone calls to legislators.

  • We actively participate in-person at events and important convergences such rallies, marches and border actions.

  • We support the sanctuary movement and groups that share our mission, values, and goals (e.g. LCWR, SOA, CLUE-LA, CIVIC, Interfaith Coalition for Human Integrity, AFSC, and religious groups: Episcopal, Presbyterian, UUSC, USCCB).

You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God. (Leviticus 19:34)

CLimate change

With the awareness that climate change propels migration that especially impacts women, The Commission on Justice for Immigrants and Refugees engages in support and actions that address the adverse consequences of climate change globally. We welcome all those who seek a safe haven in our land. CLICK HERE to learn more about The Immaculate Heart Community’s Commission on the Environment.
